Looking for a simple way to turn your couch into a full-body workout and brain game for your senior dog? This fun, wobbly game is perfect for all ages – especially senior dogs or those who need a little confidence boost. Plus, it only takes a few cushions to set up!
How to Set It Up
Gather a collection of cushions, pillows, or couch squabs.
Scatter them in a pile on the floor – overlapping, stacked, or unevenly spread out. The more variety, the better!
Either walk your dog back & forth over the cushions, or sprinkle your dog’s kibble or favourite treats between and over them and let your dog explore at their own pace. They’ll sniff, step, and balance their way through dinner, turning a normal meal into a mini adventure.
Why This Game Works Wonders
🌟 Balance and body awareness – soft, shifting surfaces encourage stabilisation and careful movement.
🌟 Confidence building – exploring unusual textures in a safe, fun way boosts self-assurance.
🌟 Proprioception – supports your dog’s awareness of where their body is in space, helping prevent injury (especially important for senior dogs so they have less trips and slips!).
🌟 Core and limb strengthening – those tiny stabilising muscles get a great workout keeping the muscles that surround arthritic joints heathy meaning less pain.
🌟 Mental enrichment – sniffing for food taps into natural foraging instincts and keeps their brain happily engaged.
The Benefits in Action
This game isn’t just fun – it’s secretly working your senior dog’s body and brain at the same time. It’s perfect for:
✅ Turning mealtimes into enrichment time - for overweight dogs or one's that don't move around much.
✅ Burning energy indoors on rainy days.
✅ Supporting joint health, strength, and stability to keep your senior dog moving for longer.
✅ Boosting your dog’s confidence and mental wellbeing.
